Sundance Mesa Community Newsletters - Newsletters are published regularly by the HOA.  Here are samples of two recent newsletters:  Summer 2010 and Fall 2010

Emergency Services - Sundance Mesa is provided with firefighting and emergency medical services by District 4 of the Sandoval County Fire Department.  Formerly known as the Placitas Volunteer Fire Brigade, this all volunteer department has been serving the greater Placitas area since 1973.  There are currently two fire stations serving Placitas, with a third station to be built sometime in early 2010.  This third fire station will located on Petroglyph Trail in the Anasazi Meadows subdivision; it will become the closest station to Sundance Mesa. For more information about District 4, visit their website at www.placitasfireandrescue.comFor all fire and medical emergencies, please dial 911.  If you are interested in volunteering to help the fire department, call 867-5080 and leave a message.  The district is always looking for volunteers - there many ways in which local residents can help!

County Burn Rules - Burning in this dry, windy climate can be very dangerous; you can be cited and held liable for damages caused by fire that escapes from your control.  To hear the most current information regarding burn restrictions in the county call 505-867-4581; press 3 to hear the recorded message.  With few exceptions, most types of burning require a permit.  One exception is that tumbleweeds are allowed to be burned without a permit provided piles are limited in size and the homeowner has an active supply of water (a charged garden hose is usually sufficient), rakes and shovels immediately adjacent to the burn area.  An alternative for getting rid of dead brush, weeds or tumbleweeds is to bag them and take them to the county landfill located in Rio Rancho.  Call 505-867-0816 for information on hours/days of operation - the landfill may be closed if wind conditions are high.  For additional information about burn permits, call the county fire marshal, James Maxon, at 505-867-0245.

Post Office Locations - The small friendly post office for our zip code 87043 is located in Placitas at 625 Highway 165; 505-867-3460.  Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday.  There is also a post office located in the Town of Bernalillo (zip code 87004) at 147Calle del Presidente.  Both locations offer full USPS services.

Recycling Center - Placitas Recycling (505-771-9549) is located on the north side of Highway 165 one half mile east of interstate 25.  It is open every Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m.  Our local monthly newpaper, The Sandoval Signpost, has a description of the materials accepted for recycling.  The same information is also available on the Placitas Recycling website.  Our local recycling center is staffed by volunteers - you can find out how to volunteer by visiting their website.

Reflective Rural Addressing House Numbers - Sandoval County requires that homeowners clearly display a reflective red and white house number in a position that is clearly visible from the roadway.  It is very difficult to locate and identify houses at night, and if an emergency vehicle is trying to locate your home, a reflective house number can be a lifesaver!  In fact, some of the homes within Sundance Mesa can be difficult to locate even during daylight hours.  The county provides these numbers to builders for use when constructing homes; if you need replacement numbers, there are two sources. They are available free of charge through the District 4 office of the fire department (call 505-867-5080 and leave a message).  Please ensure you and your family are protected and can be located in the event of an emergency!
